AAU Maryland Open 2021 Registration is Available!

Registration is now available for our Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Maryland Open 2021 tournament on Saturday May 8th, 2021 at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex.

Events Include:

  • Individual – A triple crown event consisting of 3 component events: Speed (60 seconds), Power (60 seconds), and Freestyle to Music (60-75 seconds).
  • Pairs – A triple crown event consisting of 3 component events: Pairs Speed (2×30 seconds), Pairs Power (2×30 seconds), and Pairs Freestyle to Music (60-75 seconds).
  • Double Dutch Single – A triple crown event (group of 3 athletes) consisting of 3 component events: DD Single Speed (60 seconds), DD Single Power (60 seconds), DD Single Freestyle to Music (60-75 seconds).
  • Double Dutch Pairs – A triple crown event (group of 4 athletes) consisting of 3 component events: DD Pairs Speed (4×30 seconds), DD Pairs Power (2×30 seconds), and DD Single Freestyle to Music (60-75 seconds).
  • 4-Person Single Rope Freestyle choreographed to music (60-75 seconds).
  • Timed Triple Unders for 60 seconds, ages 15+.
  • Junior and Senior Group Routine choreographed to music (2 – 4 minutes), 8 – 24 person event.

Registration for the tournament is $40 per athlete ($10 late fee after 4/25/2021). Athletes must be a registered member of the AAU. A tournament T-Shirt ($18) and an athlete lunch ($7 or $8.75) may be pre-ordered as well.

Due to COVID restrictions, this event must adhere to CDC, Howard County Recreation and Parks (HCRP), and Maryland state guidelines.

Current guidelines require:

1. Masks to be worn at all times during the competition by all judges, participants, coaches, and event staff. Masks will be worn by athletes while participating in events.

2. Lunch will not be consumed inside the facility and there will be no concession sales.  Lunch may be pre-ordered from Chick-Fil-A, but must be consumed outside in a picnic area, in a vehicle, or in a nearby area.

3. No spectators will be allowed inside the facility.  We will limit on the number of athletes, coaches, judges, and event staff allowed in the building.

2021 Spring Jump Rope Class Registration Is Open!

Registration is open for our 2021 spring jump rope classes through the Howard County Recreation and Parks department! Classes are once a week and are taught by our talented Kangaroo Kids staff. It’s a great way to have fun, be fit, and keep jumping! Classes start April 13th at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex and will comply with current CDC, HCRP, and MD state safety guidelines.

Junior Jumpers with Kangaroo Kids (6-14 yrs)
This beginning jump rope class is all about fun and fitness. Jumpers learn basic single rope, Double Dutch and long rope skills. Returning jumpers, bring your beaded jump ropes. Jump rope fee of $9 for first-time participants due at first class.

Intermediate Jumpers with Kangaroo Kids (6-16 yrs)
Jumpers build on basic single and long rope skills and are introduced to precision group routines. Prerequisite: minimum of two sessions of Junior Jumpers and/or coach’s approval.

Preparation to Perform (8-16 yrs)
Jumpers with a desire to perform at public events, build on your single and long rope skills, learn precision routines and develop showmanship skills. No performing requirements. Prerequisite: minimum of two sessions of Intermediate Jumpers and/or coach’s approval.

2021 Jump Rope Summer Camps

Want to learn basic single rope, Double Dutch, and long rope skills with the Kangaroo Kids? These camps are all about fun and fitness. Come improve your cardio-respiratory endurance, balance, coordination, and muscular strength from Kangaroo Kids staff members. Bring your beaded jump ropes or purchase one at camp for $9. Camp registration opens February 3rd through the Howard County Recreation & Parks website and is open to boys and girls ages 6 – 17 years old. The camps will run Monday July 5th through Friday July 9th at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex and Monday August 9th through Friday August 13th at the North Laurel Community Center. All camps will comply with current CDC, HCRP, and MD state safety guidelines.

2020 USA Jump Rope Virtual Nationals Results

Over the summer, 9 members of the Kangaroo Kids participated in the 2020 USA Jump Rope Virtual Nationals tournament. Our team members won 13 gold, 12 silver, and 16 bronze medals! Jump Rope Fit for Adults

Jump into fitness! Increase cardio-respiratory endurance, balance, coordination, and agility! Class is great cross training for basketball, soccer, volleyball and other activities.
