2022 Spring Jump Rope Class Registration Opens March 9!

Registration will open March 9th for our 2022 spring jump rope classes through the Howard County Recreation and Parks department! Classes are once a week and are taught by our talented Kangaroo Kids staff. It’s a great way to have fun, be fit, and keep jumping! Classes start April 19th or 20th at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex and will comply with current CDC, HCRP, and MD state safety guidelines.

Junior Jumpers with Kangaroo Kids (6-14 yrs)
This beginning jump rope class is all about fun and fitness. Jumpers learn basic single rope, Double Dutch and long rope skills. Returning jumpers, bring your beaded jump ropes. Jump rope fee of $9 for first-time participants due at first class.

Intermediate Jumpers with Kangaroo Kids (6-14 yrs)
Jumpers build on basic single and long rope skills and are introduced to precision group routines. Prerequisite: minimum of two sessions of Junior Jumpers and/or coach’s approval.

Preparation to Perform (6-16 yrs)
Jumpers with a desire to perform at public events, build on your single and long rope skills, learn precision routines and develop showmanship skills. No performing requirements. Prerequisite: minimum of two sessions of Intermediate Jumpers and/or coach’s approval.

Jump Rope Fit for Adults (18+ yrs)
Jump into fitness! Increase cardiorespiratory endurance, balance, coordination, and agility! This class is great cross training for basketball, soccer, volleyball and other activities. A jump rope can be purchased for $9 at first class.

2022 Jump Rope Summer Camps

Want to learn basic single rope, Double Dutch, and long rope skills with the Kangaroo Kids? These camps are all about fun and fitness. Come improve your cardio-respiratory endurance, balance, coordination, and muscular strength from Kangaroo Kids staff members. Bring your beaded jump ropes or purchase one at camp for $9. Camp registration opens February 2nd through the Howard County Recreation & Parks website and is open to boys and girls ages 6 – 17 years old. The camps will run Tuesday July 5th through Friday July 8th at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex and Monday August 8th through Friday August 12th at the North Laurel Community Center. All camps will comply with current CDC, HCRP, and MD state safety guidelines.

2022 AAU Jump Rope Winter Classic Registration is Available!

Registration is now available for our 2022 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Jump Rope Winter Classic tournament on Saturday February 19th, 2022 at North Laurel Community Center.

Registration for the tournament is $50 per athlete ($10 late fee after 1/22/2022). Athletes must be a registered member of the AAU. A t-Shirt ($18) and lunch ($7 or $10) may be pre-ordered as well.

Due to COVID restrictions, this event must adhere to CDC, Howard County Recreation and Parks (HCRP), and Maryland state guidelines.

Current guidelines require:

1. Masks to be worn at all times during the competition by all judges, participants, coaches, and event staff. Masks will be worn by athletes while participating in events.

2. Lunch will not be consumed inside the facility.  Lunch may be pre-ordered from Chick-Fil-A, but must be consumed outside in a picnic area, in a vehicle, or in a nearby area.

3. A small amount of concessions, such as Gatorade, water, and candy, may be sold during lunch outside.  We are not able to sell concessions inside the facility.

4. Bring a reusable water bottle for the day.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Nine current and lifetime members of the Kangaroo Kids will be participating with jumpers from across the country in the 95th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 25 in New York City!

The Parade will feature jumpers representing 25 teams from 21 states throughout the nation. Organized by the Heartbeats Jump Rope Team from Cleveland, Ohio, the group will appear under the acronym J.U.M.P. (Jumpers United for Macy’s Parade)

Starting from Central Park, the athletes will be jumping the entire 2.8 mile course that winds through New York City in front of a huge spectator crowd and millions of viewers of the NBC live telecast of the Parade.

After arriving in at the fabled Herald Square in front of the Macy’s Flagship Store, the group will be featured in a live one-minute segment broadcast on NBC national television with an estimated 50 million viewers.

Broadcast nationally by NBC, this is the official kick-off to the holiday season. Be sure to tune in at 9:00 a.m. (EST) on Thanksgiving Day morning and watch the J.U.M.P. athletes from all across the nation in the Macy’s Parade.

Fall Workshop Registration is Open!

Registration is open for our 2021 Fall Workshop on Saturday November 6th at the North Laurel Community Center. Workshop check-in is at 8:30 AM. The workshop will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Additional Details

Each participant registration is $60 with early bird discount for registration on or before October 21st and includes an event t-shirt. Registrations after October 21st will cost $70 and will not include an event t-shirt.

Judge training will be available. Judges must choose between IJRU or AAU/USA judge training. The Judge training level will be assigned by the coaches based on past experience. Judge training is $20 for non-Kangaroo Kids parents with an early bird discount for registration on or before October 21st. Registrations after October 21st will cost $30 for non-Kangaroo Kids parents.

Participants and Judges can pre-order a Subway lunch for the event. Lunch includes a choice of sandwich (ham, turkey, BMT, or veggie delight), cookie, and bottle water for $8. Deadline for placing lunch orders is October 30th.

The Kangaroo Kids and Coach Nicole Meek were on Fox45 News in Baltimore to feature the jumpers up-coming trip to the AAU Junior Olympics and Coach Nicole’s AAU Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Award. Coach Nicole also received a Certificate of Recognition from Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. Congratulations Coach Nicole and good luck to all our jumpers participating in the AAU Junior Olympics July 28-31 in Houston Texas!

In case you missed the news, our very own Coach Nicole has been chosen as one of 25 National Award winners for the AAU Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Award! We are very proud of her and all of the work she does with the Kangaroo Kids. Make sure to congratulate Coach Nicole when you see her! 


UPDATE: Tune in to Fox45 News Monday morning July 26th as they will be doing several spots on Kangaroo Kids!  The spots will recognize Coach Nicole for her Double Goal Coach Award, our team members from the First US National Team, and our plans to compete in the AAU Junior Olympics in Houston, TX, which works in connection with the Positive Coaching Alliance. The spots will appear on Fox45 at approximately 7:24 AM, 8:24 AM, and 9:10 AM.
