Classes

The Kangaroo Kids are organized into classes and teams by age and skill level.

This beginning jump rope class is all about fun and fitness. Jumpers learn basic single rope, Double Dutch and long rope skills. Returning jumpers, bring your beaded jump ropes. A jump rope fee of $10 ($11 for electronic payment) for first-time participants is due at first class. 12 Classes.

(6-15 yrs)

Jumpers with a desire to perform at public events, build on single and long rope skills, learn precision routines and develop showmanship skills. No performing requirements. Prerequisite: minimum of two sessions of Intermediate Jumpers and/or coach’s approval. 12 Classes.

(18+ yrs)

Jump into fitness! Increase cardiorespiratory endurance, balance, coordination, and agility! This class is great cross training for basketball, soccer, volleyball and other activities. A jump rope can be purchased for $10 ($11 for electronic payment) at first class. 12 Classes.

(6-15 yrs)

Jumpers build on basic single and long rope skills and are introduced to precision group routines. A jump rope fee of $10 ($11 for electronic payment) for first-time participants is due at first class.

Prerequisite: minimum of two sessions of Beginner Jumpers and/or coach’s approval. 12 Classes.

(11-18 yrs)

This beginner jump rope class is all about fun and fitness. Jumpers learn basic single rope, Double Dutch, and long rope skills. A jump rope fee of $10 ($11 for electronic payment) for first-time participants is due at first class. Returning jumpers may use their beaded jump ropes. 12 Classes.

Teams

Performing Team

Performing Club jumpers will perfect precision group routines with the purpose of performing shows throughout the community.  Skills and showmanship will be developed.  In addition to practice time, there is a minimum commitment of jumping in 1 of every 3 shows for each jumper. Uniforms are also required.  Placement by audition. 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Prep to Perform Classes and a coach’s recommendation.

Competition Team

Competition Team provides an opportunity for jumpers who wish to compete in the sport of jump rope.  These jumpers will train for and participate in local and possibly national or international competitions.  Additional practices, registration fees, competition fees and dues, and uniforms are required.  Travel expenses for competitions are jumper’s responsibility.

Prerequisite: Current Member of Performing or Travel  Teams or Kangaroo Kids Lifetime member.

Travel Team

Jumpers will perfect intricate precision group routines with the purpose of performing demonstration shows. High level of skill and showmanship is developed. In addition to practice time, there is a requirement of 1 of every 3 shows for each jumper.  Uniforms are required. Placement by Coaches' invitation upon completion of needed skills and recommendations from Performing Team Coaches.

Meet twice a week for 2 hours each day from September – June (2 semesters).

Jump rope has helped me meet so many people with the same interests as me. I love the sport!

Inclement Weather

Our classes and team practices are held at Howard County facilities and does not follow Howard County School System closures during inclement weather.  Howard County Recreation & Parks Sports department determines the operating status of the facilities.

 

Kangaroo Kids does not have any input in determining the facility status and can not relay the status to all class participants and team members in a timely manner.

If there is a chance for inclement weather, please call the Howard County Program Status and Inclement Weather information hotline for the latest status of the facility before you leave (Call after 4pm M-F and after 7am Sat & Sun for recorded message).
